If I call microsoft to cancel will they give me a code or add it directly?

I have been wanting to cancel one of my xbox live accounts and someone said when I call Microsoft that they would offer me free live to not quit, since I have two accounts and plan on keeping one of them would they give me free live directly on the account I was canceling or would I be able to put it on any account I wanted?
